What are Causes of Knee Pain?

Most people, at one point or another experience knee pain. As the largest joint in the body, the knee is a complex structure made up of three bones (the tibia, fibula, and femur), ligaments, muscles, tendons and two discs called menisci. Sudden-onset knee pain that persists is sometimes an indicator of injury to one of these parts of the knee. However, pain can also result from repetitive activities, osteoarthritis and wearing non-supportive shoes. Herald Square Chiropractic and Sport is committed to finding the cause of your knee pain through x-ray, MRI, CT scan and functional tests in order to determine the best treatment available for you. For instance, you may be asked to stand up, walk, bend your knee, squat, jump, run or hop in order to determine which parts of the knee have been compromised and determine the best treatment plan.

How can Knee Pain be treated?

Prescription pain medication does not address the underlying cause of your knee pain. Rather, many types of knee pain resolve easily with basic self-care measures. Chiropractic care, medical massage, rehabilitative exercises, ice, heat, and electrical stimulation all work in combination to relieve most types of knee pain. Herald Square Chiropractic and Sport uses these services together with corrective and rehabilitative exercises in order to strengthen the knee and surrounding muscles to ensure pain does not return.

How can I prevent my Knee Pain from returning?

Herald Square Chiropractic and Sport will provide you with an individualized treatment plan for your knee pain following four phases of care - palliative, restorative, strengthening, and wellness. While the palliative phase relieves the initial pain, it is important to complete all four phases in order to ensure your knee pain is not only addressed, but that it does not return in the future.
